Finnie welcomes MMC announcement

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 28th Jun 2007

Scottish Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary Ross Finnie MSP has welcomed the MMC (Modernising Medical Careers) announcement. The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing has announced that she will extend the contracts for junior doctors who have yet to secure training posts until 31 October 2007.

Commenting, Mr Finnie said:

"I welcome this announcement. I am pleased that the Cabinet Secretary has bowed to pressure and finally acted to secure the uncertain future for junior doctors who have yet to secure training posts.

"It has to be hoped that not only will the overwhelming majority of those seeking specialist training posts get such posts, but also that those who are still unsuccessful will be helped to find alternative positions within NHS Scotland."
