FINNIE WELCOMES SUPPORT WEBSITE FOR OUT OF WORK TEACHERS

Written by Ross Finnie on Fri 5th Feb 2010

West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has welcomed a website set up to support unemployed teachers.

The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) website has been launched. The CPD Step-in website will be available to any trained teacher and provides a range of services, like online training and professional advice. Figures showed that in 2007 East Dunbartonshire had 1297 teachers compared to 1205 in 2009. The pupil teacher ratio has also gone from 13.1in 2007 to 13.6 in 2009.

Commenting Mr Finnie said:

"While I welcome the CPD Step-in website, I think it is the least the SNP Government could do since they are responsible for the increase in the number of teachers who are unemployed.

"The SNP promised more teachers and smaller class sizes but have delivered neither. The funding to the CPD Step-in website is a step in the right direction but it does not even scratch the surface on the broken promises made by the SNP to the people of East Dunbartonshire."
