ROSS FINNIE URGES WEST DUNBARTONSHIRE COUNCIL TO FOCUS ON WAY FORWARD

West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has urged West Dunbartonshire Council to work together to find a way forward rather than focussing on the negative aspects of the Audit Scotland Report

In an Audit Scotland report published last week West Dunbartonshire Council was heavily criticised for not making significant progress and for the political conflict that is making it difficult to sustain an agreed improvement programme. This contrasted with the HM Inspectorate of Education Report released last week on West Dunbartonshire Council which stated the education service continues to build on the good work established already.

Commenting Mr Finnie said:

"The Audit Scotland Report is very concerning for the residents of West Dunbartonshire. The problems identified in the Report must be resolved and this will only happen if the conflict between elected members and officials is ended and all political parties work together with the senior officers at the council to improve the deficiencies identified in the Audit Scotland report.

"The recent HMIE report was very promising, showing good progress in attainment and supporting young people in moving to positive post-school destinations is an example of what can and must be achieved"
