FINNIE CALLS FOR RETENTION OF LEAGUE OF HOSPITAL FRIENDS CAFÉWritten by Ross Finnie on Mon 20th Apr 2009
FINNIE CALLS FOR RETENTION OF LEAGUE OF HOSPITAL FRIENDS CAFÉ West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has visited the League of Hospital Friends Café to sign the petition against its closure and show his continuing support for its retention. The cafeteria service provided by the League of Hospital Friends is staffed by a rota of 60 voluntary workers serves tea, coffee, rolls and a variety of healthy eating options. The service has been in existence for 36 years and uses its profits to refurbish the cafeteria, fund a volunteer hospital transport system and pay for additional medical equipment at the hospital. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde plan to evict this charity and replace it with there own Aroma styled coffee shop. Commenting Mr Finnie said: "Today I visited the League of Hospital Friends Café to talk to some of the regular costumers and add my name to the petition against the closure of this fine institution. "The League of Hospital Friends is a charity that uses what ever profits it makes to improve the hospital by providing vital medical equipment and volunteer hospital transport. It beggars belief that NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde think evicting this charity is a wise course of action. "I only hope that this weeks NHS Board meeting will result in the retention of the League of Hospital Friends Café and end this ridiculous aroma styled saga." Ends
