West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie visited St Kenneth's Primary in Greenock as part of the Scottish Parliament's Outreach Programme.
During the visit he met with pupils and teachers from St Kenneth's in Primary 7. The pupils asked a range of questions many based on Greenock's maritime heritage and raised the question of an Oberon Class submarine being acquired as a possible centre piece of a maritime museum.
"The pupils were extremely well versed in our maritime history and they should be given every encouragement in their wish to establish a maritime museum.
"I told the pupils not to be put off by the fact that the idea of bringing a Scots built Oberon Class Submarine for a local history museum had first been mooted by my colleague Councillor Alan Blair a number of years ago but he received little support.
"The pupils of St Kenneth's Primary have their own ideas as to how this might be taken forward and I hope all the bodies they approach will take seriously their initiative."
