TACKLE DEPRIVATION TO REDUCE ABORTION RATES - FINNIE

Commenting on official figures showing that abortion rates have risen, but rates are much higher in areas of high deprivation, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary Ross Finnie MSP said:

"Given the recent vote in the House of Commons, abortion remains a controversial issue. While it is important that abortion remains available under the legal framework of the NHS, I am concerned at the clear link between deprivation and increased abortion rates.

"It is clear that if the Scottish Government wants to reduce the number of abortions, it must focus its efforts on addressing the root causes of deprivation."
